Health and Wellbeing comes first at Poplar Farm

19th December 2019

With the health and wellbeing of pupils and staff of paramount importance, Poplar Farm Primary School hosted their first of three Health and Wellbeing Days for this academic year before the Christmas break.

During these days, the children take part in a range of workshops that help them to think and learn about different ways to keep themselves healthy – both physically and mentally.

Activities include balance bikes, peer massage, mindful colouring, painting, singing, road safety and yoga with pupils mixed between their classes so they can experience working with other children.

At various points throughout the day, pupils all came together for a road safety assembly, dancing workshops and The Daily Mile, a nationwide initiative to improve the physical health and wellbeing of young people by running set distances each day in a fun and inclusive manner. Pupils then concluded the day by going back to their classes for a Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) Education session.

Lucy Bowden, SENDCO at Poplar Farm, explained: “Throughout the year, we strive to provide the children with a happy place to learn, but also look for ways that we can develop our children into life-long happy and healthy men and women.

We use PSHE to help the children build on these life skills and their awareness of mental health and physical wellbeing.”
