Year 1 - Wildcat

In Spring Term 2, we are so excited to be learning all about heroes and villains within traditional tales. In Literacy, we are reading a variety of different traditional tales including The Three Billy Goats Gruff and an alternative version The Ant and the Big Bad Bully Goat. We will be discussing the heroes and villains in these stories and the characteristic of each. We will be re-telling the stories, adding in our own vocabulary and character descriptions. They will be creating posters, letters and stories.

Our topic work will focus on The Great Fire of London, following on from last terms drama workshop with Partake Theatre. We will be using a range of sources and artefacts to find out about the event and will be sequencing a timeline. We also write a diary entry as if we were there!

We are very lucky this term to have a Gymnastics coach who will be working on travelling, balancing and rolling to form short sequences.

We will also be having music lessons from a local provider who will teach the children about rhythm and pitch using their voices and a range of instruments.

This term, in mathematics, we will be focusing on numbers to 50. Children will be counting forwards and backwards and ordering the numbers. They will also be learning to count in 2s, 5s and 10s.

In year 1, books will be changed on Monday and Thursday. Finally, can children have their PE kits in school on a Monday and Thursday. Please make sure children have plimsoles that fit so that they can take part effectively in PE lessons.

We will be sending out red words every Friday and we will be doing a short spelling test on the Friday.
