Hello Year 3!
In Autumn 2, our topic is 'Why is the ground shaking?' The children will learn about volcanoes and earthquakes, why they occur and the impact they have on people and the environment.
In Autumn 1, our topic is 'Who First Lived in Britain?'. The children will travel back in time and discover what it was like to live in the Stone Age.
Our PE lessons will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The children should come into school in PE kit on those days. This term we will be focussing on fundamentals and fitness. On Thursdays our sports coach will join us!
Homework will be handed out on a Friday, to be returned on the following Thursday. In addition to homework, we expect the children to read daily and use Spelling Shed and TT Rockstars to support their learning. If your child reads at least four times per week they will receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win a book from our vending machine! For every new book the children read they will receive a stamp on their reading chart. When they reach twenty books they will have a special treat of hot chocolate with a teacher!
Children in Year 3 access books through the Accelerated Reader Program. They complete star reader tests each term to determine their reading range level. This corresponds to the books in the library, where children will choose their home school reading books each week. On a Friday, the children will complete a reading quiz based on the book they have read that week. You will be able to view their scores online.
Don't forget to look at the curriculum overview for more information.
Please view our Class Dojo pages to follow our learning this year.
We are looking forward to beginning our Year 3 journeys.
